The Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University is seeking a part-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor in General Dentistry. They will provide general dental patient care at an off-site clinical facility hosted by the Mercer University School of Medicine that treats adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This position does not meet the requirements to be on a tenure track.
Abilities Competent direct patient care: effective interprofessional collaboration, and efficient clinic management including patient record keeping in compliance with institutional and governmental policies.
Knowledge Previous teaching or mentoring experience with clinicians and clinical staff, the ability to recognize the need to refer patients for specialty dental treatment and familiarity with digital dentistry workflows.
Skills Organizational and communication skills as oral health clinician in support of interdisciplinary patient care.
Responsibilities
Clinical/Patient Care - 80% Provide comprehensive general dental treatment for patients at the Mercer University School of Medicine Center for Adults with intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in Macon, GA as part of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between Augusta University's Dental College of Georgia and Mercer University. This facility is located at 750 Hazel Street, Macon, GA 31201
Service - 20% Participate in relevant DCG, and Mercer University School of Medicine committees or councils, provide administrative oversight for patient records and complete required annual compliance training as assigned by Augusta University and the Mercer School of Medicine
Required Qualifications
Must be a graduate of an ADA accredited dental school and have 5 years of clinical experience and be licensed in or eligible for licensure by the Georgia Board of Dentistry. The selected candidate will be required to provide proof of completed academic degree in the form of an official transcript.
The ability to effectively collaborate with the interdisciplinary teams of health care providers, e.g., Physicians, nurses, therapists, etc.
General Dentistry Experience and at least three years of experience treating special needs patients e.g., with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (IDD)
Assistant Professor - Early level career as a faculty member with background, education, and training consistent with the following position requirements.
Associate Professor - Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Assistant Professor with background, education, and training consistent with the following position requirements.
Professor - Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor with background, education, and training consistent with the following position requirements.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
Evidence of ability as a teacher;
Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity in advanced technologies and digital workflow. Significant clinical experience, post-graduate training in general dentistry or prior experience in private practice and a working knowledge of effective practice management strategies and all aspects of clinical general dentistry.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is fiscal year based and works year-round. Amount of time worked is based on work commitment.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is between 0.75 and 0.99 FTE. The FTE will be determined at the time of hire after discussions during the interview process with the successful candidate. Although this position is fully benefits eligible and can select from the robust University System of Georgia (USG) benefits package, this position is not considered full-time. Only positions at 1.0 FTE are considered full-time.
Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
